Da musste einfach ein Interview her!

Mightytraveliers: Driving more than 8000 mi across two continents in an old car: What the hell were you guys thinking?

where-is-wallys-mongol-rallyWe pride ourselves on not thinking. We find that not thinking is the best way to make memories.

You are about 2 weeks on the road by now. How is the atmosphere?

After 2 weeks through what we’ll say is mostly Europe, the atmosphere was awesome. Everyone we’ve met has been friendly and a half. The further east we go, the more excited people are to see us. We had one couple in Azerbaijan handing us corn and alcohol while driving 120 kph down the road.

When do you plan to arrive in Ulan Bator?

It’s UB by Aug 23rd or bust!

What kind of employer grants you that many days off?

great-views-mongol-rallyNone of ours. We all just quit our jobs – maybe they’ll take us back afterwards. (See answer to #1.)

You call your trip an epic journey. What was the most awesome experience so far? Is there a special place or specific country, you guys are looking forward to visiting?

Some highlights have included wrestling with consulates, camping ferral in a Cappadoccia cave, two-wheel rally car driving down the Transfargasan Highway, bartering with crooked cops, trying to ut out the Gates of Hell, and being detained for an extra 48 hrs on our cargo ship into Turkmenistan.

Three people in a tiny Nissan Micra: Don’t you guys hate each other by now?

Nah – we’re a live and let live type crew. I don’t think we would have set sail if it had been any different. There are some good stories mongol-rally-road-tripabout rallyers never speaking to one another after the trip, but I don’t think that’ll be the case here.

And the final question: Who has to sit in the backseat?

It’s a rotation. The Americans have finally learned how to drive stick well enough to share the load, so everyone’s put in their time in the rumble seat. It’s actually pretty comfy. Higher praises cannot be sung for the Nissan Micra – it’s a beast of a tiny car.
